Election Night Hits Record High: 20 Million Tweets
More than 20 million tweets have already been sent about the election Tuesday night, Twitter's government team revealed. That makes it by far the most tweeted political event in U.S. history.
The number was announced at 10:16 p.m. ET, with the election still in the balance — suggesting that the final tally would be much larger before the night was over.

Meanwhile, President Obama — whatever else he wins tonight — was on course to have the most retweeted tweet in history. This tweet, sent out at 10 p.m. ET, had more than 100,000 retweets just half an hour later:

For comparison, Justin Bieber's retweet record was 200,000 — and that was achieved over the course of several days.
